House of Blues - Jam Night

DEBI CANDLISH performs as a duo with her frequent performance buddy, North Queensland harmonica gun "Monsoon" Mal Stainkey, They have combined talents to take their Blues to a new level, in a show that flows as a musical history of blues from the 1920’s to the present. With a pedigree in performing with Blues greats and appearing at music festivals and events as featured artists, combined experiences and passion enhance their skills at playing the Blues.

Debi grew up in Greensboro in the foothills of North Carolina, USA, surrounded by Delta and Piedmont blues, old-time country and gospel music. She came to Melbourne in the late 80's and became ensconced in the local Blues scene under the mentorship of local blues players including James Bridges from Collard Greens and Gravy, Skip Sail, Steve Plater, Alex Burns, Jeff Lang and CW Stoneking. She made Australia her permanent home, and by the time she eventually settled in Townsville, Queensland, she was a singer/songwriter/storyteller and slide player with serious chops.

Debi is now a well-known performer in FNQ and is referred to as the Queen of the Blues. In July 2022 she returned to North Carolina to play some shows and catch up with her roots. It’s great to have Debi back in Melbourne to perform at MBAS after her full-house appearance two years ago.
